Individual Contractor – Policy Advisory and Capacity Development

About the role

The United Nations Sustainable Development Office (UNOSD) within UN DESA seeks an Individual Contractor to provide policy advisory and capacity‑development support to developing countries. Working remotely for a nine‑month fixed‑term, the contractor will help strengthen the enabling environment for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct policy research and data analysis on waste management, water and sanitation, and climate action.
• Develop and deliver capacity‑building initiatives aligned with SDG 6, 7, 11, 12, 13 and 15.
• Coordinate joint missions, workshops and key meetings with member‑state officials.
• Produce research products and policy briefs to support national SDG strategies.
• Assist UNOSD in monitoring progress and prioritising support for Small Island Developing States, Least Developed Countries and Landlocked Developing Countries.

Required profile

• Proven experience in policy advisory, research or capacity development for international development.
• Familiarity with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and related thematic areas.
• Ability to work independently and remotely, delivering high‑quality outputs within tight timelines.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with UN member‑state representatives.
