Principal Field Application Engineer – Auto MCU

About the role

As a Principal Field Application Engineer specializing in automotive microcontrollers, you will act as the primary technical liaison between NXP and key automotive customers in Korea. You will support the Software Defined Vehicle and AI Defined Vehicle initiatives by providing expert guidance on hardware and software integration.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support and design‑in enablement for OEMs, Tier‑1 suppliers, and ecosystem partners using NXP automotive MCU platforms, including Ethernet TSN, CAN‑FD, and on‑chip security engines.
• Assist customers with system bring‑up, boot configuration, multi‑core initialization, and integration of AUTOSAR MCAL or real‑time drivers.
• Advise on system‑level architecture topics such as zonal gateway designs, virtualization, and ECU consolidation for Software‑Defined Vehicle programs.
• Deliver pre‑ and post‑sales technical presentations, proof‑of‑concept evaluations, and training materials.
• Manage escalation processes for complex technical issues, coordinating with internal NXP teams to ensure timely resolution.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in field application engineering, applications engineering, or design engineering with a focus on automotive microcontrollers.
• Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written, and willingness to travel for customer meetings and training.

Required skills

• Embedded systems design expertise with ARM Cortex‑M/R/A architectures.
• Proficiency in C/C++ programming and use of embedded development tools (IDEs, debuggers, compilers).
• Experience with real‑time operating systems such as FreeRTOS, PX5, or AUTOSAR OS.
• Hands‑on experience configuring and integrating AUTOSAR MCAL drivers.
• Use of debugging hardware including JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
• Knowledge of automotive MCU security implementations (e.g., HSE/HSM) is a plus.
