About the role
The United Nations Sustainable Development Office (UNOSD) within UN DESA seeks an Individual Contractor to provide policy advisory and capacity‑development support to developing countries. Working remotely for a nine‑month fixed‑term, the contractor will help strengthen the enabling environment for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct policy research and data analysis on waste management, water and sanitation, and climate action.
- Develop and deliver capacity‑building initiatives aligned with SDG 6, 7, 11, 12, 13 and 15.
- Coordinate joint missions, workshops and key meetings with member‑state officials.
- Produce research products and policy briefs to support national SDG strategies.
- Assist UNOSD in monitoring progress and prioritising support for Small Island Developing States, Least Developed Countries and Landlocked Developing Countries.
Required profile
- Proven experience in policy advisory, research or capacity development for international development.
- Familiarity with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and related thematic areas.
- Ability to work independently and remotely, delivering high‑quality outputs within tight timelines.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with UN member‑state representatives.
