Senior Director, Robotics & Computer Vision

About the role

Coupang’s Global Operations Automation and Robotics Technology (GO ART) team is seeking a senior leader to define and execute the technical vision for robotic perception and manipulation across its worldwide fulfillment network. The role combines strategic planning, hands‑on problem solving, and talent development in a fast‑moving, high‑scale environment.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own the multi‑year roadmap for robotic perception, manipulation and computer‑vision‑driven automation.
• Build and lead multiple teams of CV engineers, robotics engineers, applied scientists and ML engineers across the U.S. and Korea.
• Set technical standards for real‑time perception (2D/2.5D/3D sensing, DNN‑based detection, tracking, recognition, pose estimation, 3D reconstruction, sensor calibration).
• Drive cross‑functional delivery with hardware, controls, simulation, MLOps, fleet software and operations to move prototypes to production at scale.
• Partner with fulfillment‑center operations and supply‑chain leaders to translate business needs into engineering programs.
• Represent Coupang as a thought leader at conferences, publications and with academic and vendor partners.

Required profile

• PhD or MS with equivalent industry depth in Computer Science, Robotics, Computer Vision, AI/ML or related field.
• 12+ years of experience developing and shipping production robotics or computer‑vision systems, with at least 6 years leading engineering organizations of 30+ people.
• Proven track record delivering a large‑scale robotics or CV automation program from concept to wide production deployment.
• Deep expertise in modern computer‑vision and deep‑learning techniques for real‑time perception and pose estimation.
