Design Engineer - Drives

About the role

ABB is hiring a Design Engineer for its Drives business in Cheonan, South Korea, within the Motion High Power Division. The position reports to the Project Engineering Manager and works onsite. The engineer creates and modifies standard designs of equipment, systems or installations, including standard specifications for manufacturing, fabrication or construction.

Key responsibilities

• Design engineering solutions, including drawings and calculations according to contract specifications.
• Contribute to design reviews and design verification, and modify designs as necessary.
• Prepare parts of design assignments to meet contractual obligations, following relevant standards, safety, cybersecurity and quality requirements.
• Ensure the Bill of Materials meets contractual obligations and project gross margin requirements by avoiding project left-over material.
• Coordinate with manufacturing and testing so designs are properly manufactured, staged and tested, and update engineering deliverables as built.
• Use standard processes and tools, and help develop new ones for reusing technical solutions.

Required profile

• 3-5 years of professional experience in Drives.
• Bachelor's degree in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Fluency in Korean and English at business level, verbal and written.

Required skills

• Power electronics design, including key circuit components of electrical drive systems.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred.
