Staff Machine Learning Engineer – Search & Discovery

About the role

The Staff Machine Learning Engineer will lead the design, development, and evolution of Coupang's end‑to‑end recommendation systems. You will own the full lifecycle of ranking, retrieval, and relevance models, partnering with global teams to continuously improve the customer discovery experience.

Key responsibilities

• Own the Recommendation service, ensuring high‑impact, customer‑centric performance.
• Collaborate with multiple global teams to co‑build a world‑class recommendation system.
• Mine large datasets to extract insights on customer behavior.
• Develop new ML models and features, create data jobs, run experiments, and launch production models.
• Mentor and grow engineers across teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience applying AI/ML to large‑scale, complex datasets.
• Proven ability to derive actionable insights and deliver business‑critical solutions.
• Professional proficiency in English and strong communication skills.
