Director, Data Security Engineering (Digital Trust)

About the role

Coupang is looking for a Director of Data Security Engineering (Digital Trust) to define and run its data protection strategy and ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of sensitive data across all environments. The role builds and scales a modern data security engineering program, partnering with security architecture, privacy, engineering, legal and business stakeholders across cloud, SaaS and on-premises ecosystems.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the enterprise data security strategy and set multi-year roadmaps for data discovery, classification, encryption and DLP
• Build, lead and mentor a data security engineering team and act as an executive advisor on data security risks and controls
• Design and implement data discovery, classification, labeling, DLP, encryption and key management, tokenization, masking and anonymization
• Secure structured and unstructured data on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), SaaS apps (M365, Salesforce) and data platforms (databases, data lakes, warehouses)
• Integrate security into data lakes, AI/ML and GenAI pipelines, mature Zero Trust data access models and secure data usage in analytics, APIs and distributed systems
• Align controls with regulatory and compliance frameworks, partner with Privacy and Legal on privacy-by-design, and support audit readiness
• Work with threat detection teams on data exfiltration and insider threat detection, and lead post-incident reviews
• Collaborate with security architecture, platform, application, infrastructure, data engineering and analytics teams, and report risks and program maturity to executives

Required profile

• 10-15+ years in cybersecurity with a strong focus on data security
• 5+ years leading security engineering teams
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security or a related field (Master's preferred)
• Preferred: background in privacy engineering or close work with CPO organizations, knowledge of AI/GenAI data risks, and experience in large-scale or highly regulated environments

Required skills

• Data security technologies (DLP, DSPM, encryption, key management)
• Cloud-native security (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery)
• Zero Trust, IAM (RBAC/ABAC) and secure data architecture patterns
• Security in CI/CD and DevSecOps; familiarity with regulatory frameworks and data protection laws
• Preferred: DSPM tools and certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP
