Staff Backend Engineer (Payments)

About the role

Coupang Pay is expanding its fintech services across Korea and Taiwan, building innovative payment and financial solutions for consumers, sellers and restaurant partners. The Risk Engineering team seeks a senior backend engineer to design secure, scalable systems that protect customer data and enable continuous financial services.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend systems for Coupang Pay, including fraud detection and other security‑critical components.
• Develop technologies and features that ensure sustainable delivery of financial services while safeguarding customer data.
• Collaborate with stakeholders of other systems to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
• Identify, share, and promote best practices across the team.

Required profile

• Team player with strong communication skills.
• 6+ years of experience designing and implementing backend architecture.
• Sophisticated knowledge of Java, Spring and micro‑service architectures (MSA).
• Strong coding abilities in object‑oriented and scripting languages.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or a related technical field.
