Director EHS Compliance

About the role

Coupang is looking for a Director EHS Compliance (also listed as Senior Principal) in Seoul. The role leads compliance programs across several domains, with an initial focus on Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and Fire Safety, and acts as a strategic partner to EHS, Fire Safety Compliance, Safety Operations, Legal, Compliance Analytics and business stakeholders. It covers program governance, risk management and remediation in a fast-paced global environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage compliance programs, initially EHS and Fire Safety, then expanding to areas such as Fair Trade, HR, Product & Trade, Last Mile Logistics, Trust & Safety, AML/Sanctions, Information Security, Ethics & Anti-Corruption and Financial Crime
• Manage 1 to 3 assigned compliance domains with global coverage
• Drive program governance through timelines, progress tracking and delivery of key priorities
• Maintain centralized risk tracking systems to monitor compliance gaps and remediation progress
• Ensure timely identification, escalation and resolution of non-compliance issues
• Prepare and share reports, dashboards and metrics on compliance performance, risk status, legal registers and monitoring activities
• Partner with senior leadership on remediation and strengthen compliance controls
• Promote a strong compliance culture by embedding policies, standards and expectations

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science/Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Law or a related field
• 10+ years of experience in EHS, Fire Safety, compliance, risk management, audit or related areas
• Experience developing, reviewing or maintaining regulatory inventories, legal registers and compliance obligation registers
• Experience in compliance program management and risk assessment
• Preferred: experience in large e-commerce, logistics, fulfillment, manufacturing or technology organizations, and experience with site audits, root cause analysis and remediation tracking

Required skills

• Knowledge of environmental, occupational health and safety and fire safety regulations across jurisdictions
• Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
• Risk assessment, incident investigation, corrective action and compliance monitoring
• Project management and stakeholder management; able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Preferred: advanced degree or certifications such as NEBOSH, CSP, CIH, CCEP, CIA or Fire Protection Engineer
